Curd/Yogurt rice

Curd rice is also called yogurt rice. This dish is originating from India. In the state of Tamilnadu, it is called thayir sadam. It is considered a comfort food by many. This dish is simple, yet extremely tasty, food.

Total Cooking time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  1. Raw rice – 1 cup (I used Sona Masoori rice)
  2. Water – 2 cup
  3. sesame oil – 1 and 1/2 tablespoon
  4. whole red chili – 3
  5. Mustard – 1 teaspoon
  6. urad dal – 1 teaspoon
  7. curry leaves -1 sprig
  8. coriander leaves – 1 sprig
  9. Jeera – 1 teaspoon
  10. curd – 2 cups ( as needed)
  11. Salt -1 and 1/2 teaspoon (as needed)

Preparation method

  1. Wash the raw rice. Add 2 cups of water to the rice and cook it in a pressure cooker up to 3 whistles.
  2. After it is cooked, spread the rice in a separate bowl to cool down.
  3. Add 2 cups of thick curd to the rice and salt as needed.
  4. Take a pan and pour sesame oil. Then sauté mustard, urad dal, Jeera, after it splutters, red chili, curry leaves.
  5. Add this seasoning into the curd rice.
  6. Garnish it with grapes on top of the curd rice.
  7. Serve it with thuvaiyal or pickles.
