Parrupu Kadaiyal/Thalicha Parrupu

Toor dal contains a good amount of fiber and also rich in folic acid. It goes well with white rice and more nutritious for growing kids.

Total Preparation time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  1. Toor dal – 1/2 cup
  2. Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  3. Red chili powder – 1 teaspoon
  4. Garlic – 2
  5. whole red chili – 1
  6. Onion – 1/2 medium size
  7. Tomato – 1 small
  8. Ghee – 1 tablespoon(as needed)
  9. salt – 1 teaspoon (as needed)

saute

  1. Jeera – 1 teaspoon
  2. Mustard – 1 teaspoon
  3. Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
  4. Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Preparation method

  1. Medium heat a pressure cooker.
  2. Wash and drain toor dal. Add enough water, turmeric powder and cook toor dal for 3 whistles.
  3. After pressure settled down. Mash the dal with a ladle.
  4. Heat a pan on medium and pour ghee into it add mustard, urad dal after it splutters add curry leaves, green chili and fry it for a minute.
  5. wash and add finely chopped garlic, onion. Once the onion is cooked add tomato and fry it for 2 minutes add chili powder, salt, and add cooke and mashed toor dal with enough water as required.
  6. Let it cook for 4-5 minutes.
  7. Serve it hot with white rice.
