Aval/Poha upma

Aval is also known as flattened rice. It can be easily digestible and normally used to prepare as breakfast or snack.

Total Preparation time: 15minutes

Ingredients 

  1. Thick Aval/poha – 1 cup
  2. Onion – 1 medium size
  3. Whole red chili – 4
  4. Oil – 2 tsp
  5. Water – 1 cup(as needed)
  6. Grated coconut – 1 tablespoon
  7. Salt – 1 teaspoon(as needed)

Saute

  1. Mustard – 1 teaspoon
  2. Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
  3. curry leaves – 1 sprig

Prepartion Method

  1. Wash and soak the thick aval in hot water for 5-6 minutes.  Then drain the water completely and keep the aval in a separate bowl. you can use thick /thin poha if you are using thin poha only soak for 1 or 2 minutes in hot water and drain quickly otherwise it will become porridge.
  2. Medium heat another pan. Pour oil add peanut nut fry till it turns golden brown color.
  3. Then add mustard, urad dal after it splutters add red chili, salt and add finely chopped onion cook it for 2 minutes.
  4. Add cooked aval to the pan and mix it well cook it for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Finally, add grated coconut and mix it well.
