Soya Chunks

Soya beans are low in fat and high in protein. It can be served as a side dish for coconut milk rice, sambar rice and with any South Indian rice variety.

Total Preparation Time: 20 Minutes

Ingredients 

  1. Soya chunks – 100 grams
  2. Onion – 1 medium size
  3. Tomato – 1 medium size
  4. Oil – 2 tablespoon
  5. water – 1 and 1/2 cups
  6. Salt – 1 teaspoon (as needed)

Sauté

  1. Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon
  2. Urad dal – 1/2 teaspoon
  3. Curry leaves – 1sprig

Grinding (make it a fine paste in mixie add little water)

  1. Shredded coconut – 2 tablespoon
  2. Red Chili powder – 2 teaspoon
  3. Garam masala powder – 2 teaspoon

Preparation method

  1. Take 1 and 1/2 cups of water and boil it on medium heat. Completely immerse soya chunks in it. Cook for 4 minutes, drain the water and squeeze it to dry and keep aside.
  2. Pour oil in a pan. Saute it with mustard, urad dal, curry leaves, after it splutters add finely chopped onion. Once it’s cooked, add tomatoes. Let it cook for 2 minutes, then add soya chunks, and mix it well.
  3. Add ground coconut and spices along with salt.
  4. Cook it for 8-10 minutes.
