Ven Pongal​ | Khara Pongal

Ven Pongal is one of the most favorite South Indian breakfast. It goes well with Sambar, Coconut Chutney & Medhu Vada. It is prepared during Lunch as well. It is a healthy breakfast for growing kids.

Total Cooking time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  1. Raw rice – 1 cup (I used Sona Masoori rice)
  2. Moong dal – 1/2 cup
  3. Water – 4 and 1/2 cup
  4. Ghee – 2 Tablespoon
  5. Cashew nut – 10
  6. Jeera – 1 teaspoon
  7. Pepper – 1 teaspoon
  8. Curry leaves – few
  9. Salt – 1 and 1/2 teaspoon (as needed)

Preparation method

  1. Wash the raw rice and moong dal using water and drain it
  2. Add 4 and 1/2 cups of water in a pressure cooker.
  3. When the water starts boiling add rice, moong dal and salt.
  4. Wait for 4 to 5 whistles in pressure cooker.
  5. Take a pan, add 2 tablespoon ghee then sauté pepper, jeera.
  6. After it splutter add curry leaves and cashew nut.
  7. Mix this with cooked rice & moong dal and your yummy pongal is ready.
